Save the Date! Halloween Candy Buy Back Program

What parent hasn’t cringed at the site of too much candy after trick or treating?  Wagner Dental is offering parents a way to keep their children’s smiles healthy and give back to the community at the same time this Halloween.

Located in Summerlin, Wagner Dental is offering to buy candy at the rate of one dollar and one raffle ticket for an iPod drawing per pound.  All the candy children exchange will then be donated to the troops in special care packages organized by Operation Gratitude.

For two special days, help children preserve their teeth, fill their piggy bank, and support our troops overseas.  There is no appointment necessary and the event is open to the public.

Wagner Dental hopes Las Vegas and Summerlin residents will take advantage of this special opportunity to show our troops how much Las Vegas appreciates their sacrifice and efforts.

Hygiene Tip: Senior Oral Health

Oral health changes for our Senior patients. If you have arthritis or limited use of your hands, try adapting the toothbrush for easy use. Insert the handle into a rubber ball or sponge hair curler; or glue the toothbrush handle into a bicycle grip. Toothbrush handles can be lengthened with a piece of wood or plastic such as a ruler, ice cream bar stick or tongue depressor.

For people who have dexterity problems and cannot use a manual toothbrush, an electric toothbrush may be easier to use and increase effectiveness. Numerous studies confirm that electric brushes are excellent plaque removing devices and are extremely effective in stimulating gums. Dental floss holders are also available.

New Cerec Technology at Wagner Dental

Wagner Dental has been using Cerec crown technology for seven years.  Now we would like to unveil our newest acquisition from Cerec:  the Cerec MC XL Milling Unit!  The Cerec machine allows doctors to fabricate a custom fitted, metal free crown in one appointment instead of three.  This new milling machine is faster than its predecessor, simpler to use, and yields precise results in the range of +/- 25 microns.

What does this mean to you?  This machine shortens our preparation and milling time which saves you waiting time in our office.  Less time in the chair means more time to do what you need to do in the day.  The milling resolution provides a better fit and a smoother restoration surface.   Less of the healthy tooth is lost with conservative preparation leading to a minimally invasive restoration.  All of this is done chair side in just one office visit.

We are one of only a handful of dental offices in Las Vegas that have upgraded to this new technology.

Holiday Essay Contest Winner

This Christmas like last is a humble one. While trying not to be sad I am not out buying my kids gifts, I opened my box full of journals I have kept since age 8 and looked back at my Christmas entries. What I wanted and what I got didn’t matter. As a child I was just as happy to get the GIANT Orange, Apple, and Banana in my stocking that I swore Santa magically grew but now realize was my parent’s way to fill a stocking for little money. Things that brought a smile to my face were so simple. A bike ride through a GIANT puddle and the entry I wrote at age 9. “Peace on earth good will to everyone, not just men.” While I did write the things I received, my emphasis as a child was in the feelings that surrounded me. Bringing a smile and joy to a child is so simple and I am discovering that if I search for my inner child Christmas can be happy and beautiful with just one gift and not many. The smiles we bring to Christmas are just as big with the handmade paper chain as with the expensive garland, if our joy is reflected in us not what we have.  Today we are going to make fudge the non fancy jet puffed way that I remember and loved as a child. Tomorrow we are going to make gingerbread cookies. I will be filled to watch my children’s joy and that will make this a Merry Christmas.

Dental Health Month: Free Screenings at Wagner Dental

To recognize Dental Health Month, on February 26 Wagner Dental in Summerlin is offering dental screenings including bite wing x-rays for adults and children at no charge.  They will also provide cleanings for children ages 6-12 at no charge.

Many people in this economy have lost their dental insurance and are putting off basic dental exams.  Small dental issues, if ignored, frequently result in painful dental conditions that are significantly more expensive to repair.

When: Friday, the 26th of February, 2010.  From 1pm to 4pm

Why: February is National Dental Health Month and Wagner Dental understands that people are watching their budgets during these hard economic times, but it is important to take care of our smile as well.  Wagner Dental is helping those who have come on hard times by providing a free dental screening to those who currently don’t have dental insurance due to the increasing number of layoffs in Las Vegas.

Wagner Dental Announces No Cavity Club

Wagner Dental would like to announce our new “No Cavity Club.”

Here is how it works: when you come in for your annual check-up with x-rays and you have no cavities, Wagner Dental will make a special donation on your behalf to a charity here in Southern Nevada. We would like your help in selecting which charity will receive one dollar for every patient that comes in with no decay!
